LTUE 2012 Contests
LTUE has three annual contests:
DragonComet short story contest / Odyssey poetry contest/ poster/flyer art contest
Deadline for writing contests is 15 January!
DRAGONCOMET SHORT STORY CONTEST:
The contest is divided into the following categories:
1. Adult writers
2. School age writers (9th - 12th grade at contest deadline)
3. Young school age writers (5th - 8th grade at contest deadline)
There is no entrance fee, and only one entry is allowed per person per category. No simultaneous or previously published entries will be accepted. Entries are being accepted now, and the deadline for entries is January 15.
All stories should be mailed unfolded in a manila envelope to:

No email entries will be accepted.
CONTEST ENTRY FORMS

Stories should be science fiction or fantasy in nature and no more than 10,000 words (about 20-25 typed pages). No graphic sex, language, or violence, please. Entries should be typed on 8.5 by 11 white paper, double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12-point font that is easily readable, in English. Proofread your story before entering. Illegible entries will not be considered.
Only the title should appear on the story itself. Please include a cover sheet with your name, title of work, mailing address, email address (optional), school you are attending (optional), category you are entering, and signature with a short statement that you understand the rules and the work is your own original, unpublished work. The author's name and any identifying information should appear only on the cover sheet in order to retain the objectivity of the judges. Each page of the manuscript should include the story title and a page number.
If you are under 18, please also have your parent or guardian sign the sheet as well. giving you permission to enter.
DragonComet does not retain any rights to any entries. As most stories are printed from computers, we prefer disposable manuscripts (ones we can throw away). If you must have your work returned, include a SASE large enough for your manuscript. Do not send the only copy of your entry. We are not responsible for lost entries.
Winners will be announced at Life, the Universe & Everything at BYU.
Winners will also be notified by mail if they cannot attend.
Judging will be done blindly to avoid any bias of the judges. Authors of winning stories will be notified after the final judging. Winners will be posted on the LTUE web page. Prizes will only be awarded at the discretion of the judges.

LTUE POSTER/FLYER ART CONTEST:
We are seeking artwork for promotional materials. If you would like to have your masterpiece considered, please read the rules and submit! We accept and review art year-round. Contest deadlines are Sept. 15 and March 15.
1. Artwork should be no more than 8.5" x 11" with room for text. Most flyers are 8.5" x 11", so we want art that goes well on a flyer. Art may also be used in the program book, on the LTUE website, or on other promotional materials, with credit going to the artist. If the winning artist has a webpage, we will gladly link to it.)
2. Artwork should look good in grayscale or color format. Sending two versions (one colored, one black and white) is acceptable. Line art will also be considered and does not need to be colored.

4. Artwork may also be submitted digitally, preferably in .tif format at a bare minimum of 600 dpi, to hbmonson (at) yahoo (dot) com or ltueinfo (at) gmail (dot) com.
5. If you send hard copy, please be sure it is a COPY of your work. DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL ART. We prefer disposable copies, but if you must have your artwork returned, please include appropriate postage and packaging materials with your submission. (SASE)
6. The symposium is not responsible for pieces lost, damaged, or delayed in the mail. Winning artwork will be featured on symposium posters and promotional materials with name of artist included. LTUE does not pay for artwork. Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the judging committee.
7. All art must comply with BYU’s Honor Code. No vulgarity, nudity, graphic violence or suggestive art will be accepted.
